Non-Homestead Assessment Cap
HB 381 (Dorworth) passed the House Economic Affairs Committee over opposition from the League. The constitutional amendment proposed in this bill would ask electors to create a first-time homesteader tax exemption and lower the assessment cap on non-homestead property from 10% to 3%. SB 658 (Fasano) is slightly different in that it imposes a 5% cap. It is on Monday's agenda in the Senate Budget Committee. The Florida League of Cities is encouraging legislators to move to a 7% cap.
