To help determine whether they affect you, I am pleased to provide you with a summary of the issues.

Veterans who meet the following specific criteria and have a qualified Homestead Exemption, may be eligible for an ad valorem tax discount. The discount will be your percentage of disability applied against the ad valorem taxes owed.

· Age 65 or older

· Disabled in combat

· Honorably discharged

For more information, please contact your local county property appraiser's office which can be found here: http://www.netside.net/~c3i/tax.htm

Seniors Exemption Increase from $25,000 t o $50,000

Qualified low-income seniors currently receive a $25,000 County tax Homestead Exemption and some city tax discounts. With this new amendment, taxing authorities such as the County Commission, can adopt a higher amount, up to $50,000. A resolution is required before it would take effect in Palm Beach County or municipality.

You may wish to contact the county commission or your city council for more information.
