Florida voters on Nov. 7, 2006, approved two Homestead Exemption amendments to the Florida Constitution.
To help determine whether they affect you, I am pleased to provide you with a summary of the issues.
Combat-disabled Senior Veteran Tax Discount
Veterans who meet the following specific criteria and have a qualified Homestead Exemption, may be eligible for an ad valorem tax discount.The discount will be your percentage of disability applied against the ad valorem taxes owed.
· Age 65 or older
· Disabled in combat
· Resident of Florida at the time you entered military service
· Honorably discharged

Seniors Exemption Increase from $25,000 t o $50,000
Qualified low-income seniors currently receive a $25,000 County tax Homestead Exemption and some city tax discounts. With this new amendment, taxing authorities such as the County Commission, can adopt a higher amount, up to $50,000. A resolution is required before it would take effect in Palm Beach County or municipality.
