Santa Rosa, Escambia brace for effect of homestead exemption amendment
Pensacola News Journal
Santa Rosa County stands to lose about $3.6 million in revenue and Escambia County would be out about $4.7 million if voters approve a constitutional amendment increasing Florida's homestead exemption. While some homeowners would see a tax break if the amendment passes, local municipalities that rely on those taxes to fund services like paving roads would have to deal with a drop in revenue. Santa Rosa County Property Appraiser Gregory S. Brown said the county stands to lose about $3.6 million if the amendment passes. Escambia County could lose just short of $4.7 million, according to the county's property appraiser, Chris Jones. Jones said the city of Pensacola would be out about $600,000 in total revenue.
