Filing for homestead during divorce

My almost ex- and I bought a condo in FL in 2004 but our permanent residence was in NY. During our prolonged divorce, I moved permantly to the condo, have a FL license, etc. While our divorce is not completely finalized and both of our names are on the mortgage and title right now, I have been given the condo as part of the asset split. Can I file for a homestead exemption now or do I have to wait until all of the paperwork is completed for the divorce?

DON't wait Traveler! File NOW! You may have to pay a late fee ($15.00) and give good cause, but I think you can show that with no problems. Let me know if I can be of assistance.
