Yes, as long as you do not rent the entire dwelling.

johnbsims3,
Are you sure about this answer?
I have the homestead exemption. But I can't find my annual renewal card.
I was talking to a friend and he read me what it said on his Broward County renewal card.
Basically what he read to me was that - If any portion of the dwelling is rented out, then you can not get the homestead exemption.
I've had homestead exemption for over 10 years and I recently had my disabled brother move in with me so that I can take care of him. He receives SSI and pays me $600.00 per month. I am very concerned that I may loose my homestead exemption because he lives with me and pays me rent.

I cannot find on any web site the homestead exemption form for Broward County. All I can find is the online place to apply.

-- Is there a place to download the homestead application form fro Broward County?
-- Has the law changed in regards to renting a room in your house?
-- Can Broward County have different rules than other counties?
-- Can this actually be true, that I am now subject to loosing the homestead, paying more taxes, being sued for something and possibly loosing my house due some lawsuit, just because I'm taking care of my disabled brother?

If a disabled relative lives with you and gives you money for food and expenses does that keep you from having the homestead exemption?

No. In fact, if a disabled person is homesteaded on that property, they may qualify for an additional exemption.

I am the only person that owns the property and the only person that is homesteaded on the property.
I have had homestead on the property for many years and received the annual "Official Records Change Order - 2010" form.
The homestead is an automatic renewal unless the are any changes to report in which case you must fill out and return the "Official Records Change Order - 2010" form.
There are a number of questions on the "Official Records Change Order - 2010" form.
The second item is:
___ Check this box if ANY portion of this property was rented out as of January 1. 2010. Date first rented out:_____________

How does one deal with this question if a relative lives with them and gives then money for food and expenses?

If there is no rental or lease agreement, I would be safe to say that the property is not rented...
