Can a married couple living in two different cities each get a Homestead Exemption?

We just got married and we will be retiring in a few years. I just sold my house and will be buying a retirement home in another city and county. I will be living there and transferring my job there. She will be living in her house until she sells it in a few years. My name is not on her house. Will I qualify for an exemption on our retirement home? Would it make a difference if we jointly purchased the home? Thanks.

Yes. She and you have equitable or legal title seperately. If you jointly purchase a home, the exemption will be denied as you cannot have 2 homesteads.
