RESPONSE: TO Mr. Miller's Letter to the Editor - By Carl Domino

The Palm Beach Post published a letter from Mr. Bryan Miller, one of my opponents and this was my response.

FROM: REP. CARL J. DOMINO

THE EDITOR, PALM BEACH POST

RESPONSE: TO Mr. Miller's Letter to the Editor

Date: June 28, 2007.

In his letter published in today's Palm Beach Post, Mr. Bryan Miller once again misinterpreted and mischaracterized my reasons for voting against the proposed tax reform.

I voted NO, because I believe that to eliminate the protection of Save Our Homes, in return for a highly progressive property tax, is not in the best interest of residents of District 83.

Furthermore, protection against "best and highest use appraisals," and Save Our Homes Portability, was not debated even though my amendments had been filed in a proper and timely manner.

I know that Mr. Miller opposes portability and offers no support for Save Our Homes. However, while giving lip service for property tax relief, he refuses to offer any constructive ideas of his own. At least his primary opponent Rick Ford, supported Save Our Homes Portability, and has offered a tax relief plan.

Under the current Save Our Homes protection, tax increases have been capped at 3% and thousands of Floridians could rest assured that they would not be taxed out of their homes. My revenue-neutral portability plan will help Floridians stay fluid and mobile and needs to be included in any proposed tax reform in order to spearhead a recovery from a weak real estate market.
