In 1995 my now ex husband and me purchased .46 acres of land in Florida. I reside in Germany, he moved to the US. until 2004, he paid the property tax by himself. Now the land got reevaluated, and gained a lot in value. Of course the property taxes went up. I have paid the last three years, and the sum adds up to more than he has paid from 1996 - 2004. I have heard (?) that the person who pays the property taxes is also the owner of the property irregardless of who else is on the deed. Am I right, and where can I find this in writing?

Daniele,

The person who pays the property taxes is not necessarily the owner(s). Is your name on the deed? If so, you should be named on the property tax 'TRIM" (Truth In Millage) notice, and on the tax bill. You can find this information on the tax rolls of the county in which the property is located. You can also click here and find the county property appraiser for the county.

..my name is on the deed, but it had not been on the propery tax notice, nor the tax bill, mainly because they did not havemy adress. Now I paid up the taxes and send a notice to the appraisers office for change of adress.
