There is a bill, HB 279 now in Committee, which addresses Rental of Homestead Property. The Bill attempts to revise the criteria under which rental of such property is allowed for tax exemption purposes and not considered abandoned. The Bill states that such abandonment of a homestead after January 1 of any year does not affect the homestead exemption for tax purposes for that particular year unless the property is rented for more than 30 days per calendar year.
