Important: A change in the title of your property such as conveying into a trust or adding a spouse, will require you to make a new application for your exemption. Homestead and other exemptions are not transferable. If you purchase and/or move to a new residence, it is your responsibility to reapply on your new home

Please notify your local county property appraiser when your mailing address changes. If you don't notify the County Property Appraisers office in the county in which you live, you could lose your exemption.

I have lived in my home for the past 6 years and used to travel related to my business requiring me to be away from my home 2 or 3 days a week. My office is in located in another county, I used to have all my mail, emails and packages sent to my business address. The Property appraiser is denying my Homestead Exemption for 2011, as they claim I am not residing in home on a permanent basis and that I show a pattern of my mail sent to a second location and not my home address. My reason for mail sent to this office is that my secretary has to check and verify important documents and packages with quick response. Also, the appraiser office spoke to one of my neighbors and inquired if I was living full time at my home. They have already fined my for 2010, as I did have a friend stay in home for a few weeks. I was about to go into foreclosure and bankruptcy and needed financial help. Can you folks give some good advise, as I have hearing set for the first of September, 2011. Thanks
John Williams

Nice info mate. Most of the people forget to do this sometimes when they change locations. Thanks for reminding.

Make Sure THAT YOU HAVE ALL OF YOUR AFFARS IN ORDER TO PROTECT YOUR HOMESTEAD! THE PROPERTY APPRAISER'S OFFICE (PAO) CANNOT DENY AN EXEMPTION SOLELY UPON A CHANGE OF ADDRESS.

The PAO recieves the changes of mailing address from the US Postal Service at least every Quarter. They usually automatically deny the exemption solely on this issue which is not allowed by law.

Contact us at myhomestead@bellsouth.net or call us at (954) 252-9111 to help you if you have had this happen to you.
